Steve Algert
Steve Algert joined the Berkeley Endowment Management Company in 2021 as a Managing Director. Prior to BEMCO, Steve was the Assistant Treasurer and a Managing Director at the J. Paul Getty Trust, where he was responsible for distressed debt, credit-related, and hedge fund investments. Prior to joining the Getty, Steve was employed by the Treasurer’s Office of the Regents of the University of California, managing investments for the pension plan and endowment. Prior to that, he was employed in the fund of hedge funds group at Citigroup Alternative Investments and prior to Citigroup, he was employed in fixed income research and risk management at BARRA. Steve holds a Master’s degree in Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley. He is also a CFA and CAIA charterholder.
David Bahr
David Bahr is a Managing Director at Berkeley Endowment Management Company and joined in 2018. Prior to BEMCO, David was at the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles focused on public markets. Previously, he was with Casey Family Programs, as well as the University of Washington Investment Management Company (UWINCO) in Seattle. He graduated with a B.A. in Economics and English from the University of Washington and is a CFA charterholder.
Taylor Hanson
Taylor Hanson joined the Berkeley Endowment Management Company in 2021 as an Operations Analyst. Prior to BEMCO, Taylor was an associate at Vestor Capital where she was responsible for managing private client investment portfolios, facilitating account operations, and directing new technology integrations. Previously, she was a senior associate in AllianceBernstein’s private wealth management group. Taylor graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Helen Gu
Helen Gu joined the Berkeley Endowment Management Company in 2023 as the Office Manager and Executive Assistant. Before joining BEMCO, she spent over three years at Spencer Stuart, a global executive search and leadership consulting firm, where she served as Executive Assistant to Senior Partners, with a focus on the Financial Services, Board, and Non-profit practices. Prior to that, she was the Senior Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Nanosys, Inc., where she was primarily responsible for assisting the CEO and his executive team with their daily operations. Helen holds an M.B.A. degree from the University of Newcastle in Australia and a B.A. in Business Management and Finance from Shanghai University.
Melody Ing
Melody Ing is a Managing Director at Berkeley Endowment Management Company and joined in 2018. Prior to BEMCO, Melody spent several years at Hall Capital Partners with portfolio responsibilities in Absolute Return, Fixed Income and Real Assets. Melody was formerly at Clearwater Capital Partners based in Hong Kong covering Asian distressed debt. She began her career at Goldman Sachs in San Francisco in the Private Wealth Management division and spent a number of years in the Special Situations Group in London. Melody graduated from Harvard Business school in 2009 and Northwestern University with a BA in Economics in 2002.
David McAuliffe
David McAuliffe is the President and Chief Investment Officer of the Berkeley Endowment Management Company. Prior to BEMCO, David spent eleven years as a Senior Investment Officer with the University of Washington Investment Management Company (UWINCO), with portfolio responsibilities across multiple asset classes. He was also formerly a Managing Director and head of information technology investment banking at Cascadia Capital, LLC and began his career as a consultant at Deloitte Consulting Group, focused on corporate strategy and operations projects. Other experiences include private equity and corporate development roles. David sits on the investment committee of the Seattle Art Museum. He graduated with a BA degree in Economics from Carleton College, an MA degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and an MBA degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Catherine Nguyen
Catherine Nguyen is the Managing Director of Operations at Berkeley Endowment Management Company and joined in 2017. Prior to joining BEMCO, Catherine spent four years at Top Tier Capital Partners, LLC, a venture capital focused fund of funds, where she most recently served as Fund Controller. Previously, she was a Senior Associate in KPMG LLP’s audit practice, working primarily in commercial banking. Catherine earned a B.A. in Business Economics with an Accounting Emphasis from the University of California Santa Barbara. She is a CFA charterholder and Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
Katherine Swaim
Katherine joined the Berkeley Endowment Management Company in 2022 as an Investment Associate. Prior to BEMCO, Katherine was an Investment Associate at Cambridge Associates in the Boston office, where she worked in the Endowments & Foundations practice. Katherine graduated with a B.S. in International Business from Northeastern University in 2019.
Annika Ulrich
Annika Ulrich joined the Berkeley Endowment Management Company in 2021 as an Investment Associate. Prior to BEMCO, Annika was an investment associate at Cambridge Associates in the San Francisco office, where she worked in the Endowments & Foundations practice. Annika graduated with a B.A. in History from Haverford College.
